Rachel Hinman presented at Silicon Valley IxDA what she already had shown earlier at UX Australia 2010: Mobile UX Essentials. Essential!

Rachel is a researcher and UX designer at the Nokia Research Center in Palo Alto, CA. In her own words: "Recent innovations are causing an inflection point in the mobile UX landscape, providing the opportunity to invent new and more human ways for people to interact with information. But where do designers who are steeped in the static desktop-computing paradigm begin? The purpose of this talk is to help UX designers and other UX professionals answer that very question. I'll share the three most important mobile design principles to consider when creating a mobile user experience, some mobile design exercises, and mobile prototyping tips." ... in 159 slides!

Step One: Know the medium you're designing for.
Step Two: Participate in the culture you are designing for.
Step Three: Embrace the chaos.

Great mobile experiences: (1) are uniquely mobile, (2) are sympathetic to context, and (3) speak their power. So, where do we begin?

Unfortunately she has not enough time for her blog. I would love to read more, at least we can expect a book with Rosenfeld Media soon. Read r! | View the presentation!

Lifeboats for the 'app flood': After the gold rush, the app market is maturing.

Going with the flow - 'liquid experiences': Service design innovators are finally creating services that can be fluidly experienced on any screen, anywhere.

Digital magazines are still searching for a soul: The concept of a magazine needs to be re-invented in the Tablet era.

Pimp your life, gaming style: Why not turn aspects of everyday life into a game?

Smart objects connect with the mainstream: A few more sophisticated examples will use smart objects to visualize and interact with the digital services already embedded in our lives.

'Superphones' go 4D - and beyond: Natural UI solutions that appeared first on gaming consoles, will migrate to mobile devices in 2011.

Discovering 'lifestreams': What if you could never miss a moment, never forget a thing?

The Tablet transforms work as we know it: Other device manufacturers are rushing into the market. Differentiation will be a major challenge.

Touch to pay - now with your phone: Mobile phones will start to become the new credit cards.

Mobiles gain more currency: The much-anticipated digital wallet will emerge as virtual currencies and new payment solutions emerge from all kinds of players.

The cloud becomes a kite: 2011 should see new 'mashup' innovations that combine content and services in new ways.

Experience wars - the living room is the battleground: As the living room fills with boxes, new controls, new content, new screens and even larger flat screens the ultimate experience battle begins.

No more Mobile Trends? Digital Trends. In 2010, Christian Lindholm stripped Mobile from his year-ahead overview.

He may be right: Why call it The Mobile Web when it actually is The Web. Why call it HTML5 whe it actually is HTML; a cell phone when it actually is THE phone:

The dawn of divergence: The fingers are the stylus.

Discovery is the new search: Listen to the community.

Content giants strike back in mobile: iPad is a media innovation greenfield.

Facebook is the people web - everywhere: Hooks emerging on the Real Web.

TV becomes social: The Social TV platform war.

The digital world goes physical: Public connectedness.

Progressive operators turn connectors: Vodafone 360 is the benchmark!

Everyone's own little Android: Formfactor differentiation is fundamental for platform success.

Dawn of the connected car: Long product life cycles out of sync with the mobile world.

Personal informatics: Persistant recording - monitor me when I can't.

Chained islands are the new walled gardens: Multiplatform single sign-in experiences will emerge.

Mobile net becomes useful: iPhone & iPod Touch energize content industry to remake mobile sites.

GPS is the new camera: The dream of monetizing location based services.

Touch screen, the year of the bad: Others follow Apple faster, however with inferior technology.

Google slows down to Telcom time: They will have little or no impact.

Dawn of the casual computer: iPod Touch is a casual computer that provides a great internet experience , AND is pocketable.

Go down or go out: Mobile handset business has always been about low-end. Market is dominated by Nokia. Sony Ericsson and Samsung are increasing efforts.
